Lynnea says you don’t need to get your period, but that’s not true. If you don’t get your period, you’re at a higher risk for uterine cancer. There may also be a risk during pregnancy, or of not getting pregnant if you want to, because the uterine lining becomes too thick.

The risk of uterine cancer is if you’re not taking hormonal birth control. If you’re taking hormonal birth control, the lining is kept from building up.

In Oregon you can still refuse service for any reason. I don’t hear of it happening a lot but there are still signs that say We Reserve the Right to Refuse Service. I think the lady deserves an ovation for putting an asshole in his place.

The anti-vaccers are skeptical of vaccines. You may think they are wrong, but they shouldn’t just take your or someone else’s word for it; they should find information to their own satisfaction to decide what is the best decision. The truth is that getting any specific vaccine is not always the best decision for every person. Vaccines have risks and side-effects. You have to consider that, too. My brother got an exemption for the meningitis vaccine because he’s not actually in a high risk categorie for meningitis, and a possible side-effect of that vaccine is mental retardation.

    Feb 5, 2012 at 6:24 am
  • Richard

Actually that “side effect” is totally made up.

Anti-vaccers are not against them because they have properly researched the issue and come to a conclusion but because of the opposite, they are told to mistrust it so they do.

Vaccinations are not just for you, or your brother, they are there to protect our society, also people who for proper MEDICAL reasons can’t get the shot. Your brother could still carry it and infect them.

This was another great show. It’s been a long time since I have had the feeling of anticipation of a good radio show. GB is a model for what used to be called Journalism. GB call attention to the fact the Bar can be restored, and exceeded, not just raised.

I deplore journaltainment in all its forms. I love and very much appreciate GB, TNP, and TAE. Thanks to everyone.

Awesome show!!! As an Afro American Atheist female, I really enjoyed AJ Johnson. Maybe you ladies can get another of my favorites on, Ayanna Watson from Black Atheist of America. It’s a great idea to support our cause, and when I become more financially stable ( single mom of two & full time student graduating this spring ), which will be really soon, a matter of months; I will start donating to several organizations in this movement that I have become very fond of.

Black Atheist of Atlanta lost me as supporter on this issue. They were sooooo aweful on this issue ( the things they were saying sounded so urban theistic ), and the evolution thing was highly ridiculous too. I cringed and hit the stop button, I could not watch it anymore.

Sikuvu Hutchinson’s excellent book “Moral Combat” explains pretty convincingly the various factors which make blacks more likely to be religious than the rest of us.

Richard, the paperwork from the school said that the vaccine could cause retardation. Also, No individual is obligated to take any kind of risk for the benefit of others.

Rilian - The CDC webpage does not list mental retardation among the possible side effects of a meningitis vaccine, nor do any of the serious sources I have found. I submit that there is no evidence linking the two aside from anecdotes and assertions being spread on dubious, paranoid web pages.

Sometimes this show just shows why feminism has such a bad rep….

I would rather see them actively refuse to serve me than the alternative. We’re talking about a restaurant, as many people know you don’t piss off people that serve you food. There are too many mean-spirited things they could have done, refusing to serve him at all is acceptable to me. I’d rather have discrimination against me as an atheist involve a refusal of service as opposed to the malicious things that a food service staffer can do.

It seems to me that some of the *comments* re: the show, show why feminism is needed.

Wasn’t the video with the burning churches really about how religious groups burn other people’s churches? And how that’s a bad thing? In other words, the exact opposite of the impression you give, that atheists are just trying to get a rise out of people with a provocative music video. http://freethoughtblogs.com/dispatches/2012/01/31/fox-news-lies-about-rock-beyond-belief/

Re: Meningitis vaccine refusal: The fact that school paperwork referred to side effects for a vaccine does not make it true. All it takes is a few vocal anti-vaxers getting themselves elected to a school board and they can dictate whatever nonsense they want for paperwork like that.

In fact, you are obliged morally (and in some jurisdictions legally) to get vaccinated to maintain herd immunity. Many doctors are refusing to see families who are refusing to vaccinate their children because it puts others in their practice in danger if they are too young to be vaccinated yet or have immune system problems which make them unable to tolerate being vaccinated.

Jenny McCarthy is not a doctor and doesn’t even play one on TV. The charlatan who started the anti-vaccine “movement” (Andrew Wakefield) has been stripped of his medical license in the UK and so is no longer a doctor. Vaccination has saved more lives than any other medical advance but it can only continue to do so if a large majority of the population is vaccinated against the common deadly diseases against which vaccines are effective.

Refusing to vaccinate your child for any reason other than specific immune system problems is just as much child abuse as using prayer to attempt to heal appendicitis instead of taking your child to the hospital.

With havin so much content and articles do you ever run into any issues of plagorism or copyright violation? My blog has a lot of exclusive content I’ve either authored myself or outsourced but it appears a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my permission. Do you know any solutions to help stop content from being stolen? I’d certainly appreciate it.

Hmm it appears like your website ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any suggestions for novice blog writers? I’d genuinely appreciate it.
